About

The Fourth National Workshop on ‘Hospital Infection Control’ was organized at JIPMERfrom 29th January to 1st February 2020. There are several programs on hospital infection conducted in India; most of them are lecture based, targeting health care professionals of all cadre in general. This workshop aimed at training young faculty in Microbiology across the country who work or intend to work on various aspects of infection control and further facilitate them to train others and implement, establish or augment the infection control programmes in their own institutes.

This workshop was fourth in the series, differed from previous workshops in many ways such as inclusion of resident observer participants, introduction of HIC Champion award for the participant implementing best HIC practices after attending JIPMER workshop, involvement of resource persons from previous workshop alumni participants, scholarship for the best performer participant during the HIC workshop.

The number of group participants selected for the workshop have been deliberately limited to 70, with further division into ten groups to have better interactive sessions. Observer group comprised of 33 participants, was made to accommodate the interested participants who otherwise would not have got selected.  Resident observer group comprised of 43 enthusiastic young budding microbiologists.

HIC CHAMPION AWARD

‘HIC Champion award’was a unique event introduced in 4th national workshop. The alumni participant who has implemented HIC activities maximum after attending JIPMER HIC workshop were awarded during 4th National HIC workshop. JIPMER during January 29th to February 1st 2020.

Objectives

The main objectives of this award is to create interest among participants

  • To implement HIC activities after going back from JIPMER workshop
  • To conduct workshops and CME to create HIC awareness in locality and state
  • To promote research activities in HIC
  • To generate HIC data which help to make national benchmarks

Areas of assessment

The various areas of assessment included – establishing HIC team, educational activity, hand Hygiene, HAI surveillance, needle stick injury management, hepatitis B  vaccination among HCWs, environmental surveillance, HICC meeting, and research in HIC.

Applicant  submitted the detail of their HIC activities under various areas of assessment as a PowerPoint in the prescribed format.  The selected participant were invited to receive the award in person (along with HOD / member secretary HICC / MS) during JIPMER HIC workshop 2020.
