About

The ‘First National Workshop on Hospital Infection Control’was organized by  Department of Microbiology and Hospital infection control committee (HICC), JIPMER between 6th to 10th February 2017.

The number of participants selected for the workshop were deliberately limited to 35, which further divided into five groups to have a better hand on exposure and interactive sessions. A participant WhatsApp group was created 2 months before the workshop and the PDF of all the resource materials such as CDC and WHO guidelines, eBooks, articles and manuals used for workshop preparation were shared with participants regularly.  This was intended to arouse interest among participants and to sensitise them with the course content so that they will feel easy to understand the sessions during the workshop.

By use of clickers, an innovative educational tool we intended to make the sessions more interesting and interactive.  The lesion plan in most of the sessions were based on case scenario, group discussion and MCQ based discussion. Videos and mannequin were used in some sessions. ICU visit for surveillance and field visit for biomedical waste and CSSD had been planned to give participants enough hands on exposure. Each group was provided by dedicated group facilitator for better understanding and doubt clearance during the sessions. Homework was given to the participants at the end of every day, which were discussed in the next day.

The participants were awarded with 50 credit points and 50 credit hours by JIPMER.  Participant with the best performance in the post test conducted at the end of each day will be awarded with 10 additional credit points.
